The North American Public Safety Association of Cavers will be( hopefully) an NSS Affinity Group for cavers that work in law enforcement, fire/rescue, EMT, and park rangers.
Affinity Groups are not considered Internal Organizations of the Society, but are overseen by the I/O Committee. Affinity Groups must have at least ten Society members, who will foster the Society goal of fellowship among those interested in caves, but, unlike sections, with common interests of their members not directly related to speleology.
We aren't a group yet, but well on our way. Ideas for the group would be to be able to get together at regional and national events, discuss issues involving our jobs and law enforcment such as cave closures due to grow operations and meth labs in caves. Mainly its just a social group of like minded folks to get together and cave.
If you know of anyone that is in law enforcement, firefighter, emt/rescue, park ranger, etc (and they can be retired from those fields) point them in my direction. I have started a yahoo group, and I can send them an invite to join. I can be reached at TMR171@aol.com

Wendy and Dan, Have you all been to see "The Cave" yet? Was it good, bad, funny? Any movie reviews for us who have yet to go see it? Sharon, I was honored with an invite from Jill Heinerth along with a few extra passes for my grotto for the premier. N onudity, not too scarey, no bad language, too many male hormones running amuck, great underwater cave shots, but most of the time I sat there with my mouth open with the "what the hell" look on my face, and cracking jokes to my friends bout things going on. Not the best movie out there, but fun to drink beer and watch on DVD with a bunch of cavers and cave divers.

Well I am getting a new tattoo today. I have 3 already, but this one wil lbe painful, as it is going on the top of my foot. I actually created it myself from looking at other tattoos and designs on the internet. Its a tribal style turtle with a koru in the center. A koru is a maori (tribes people from New zealand, i think they were cannabals) symbol, like a newly born fern frond, it spirals open, symbolizes rebirth, new beginnings, peace, bunches of good things. Although most tribal tattoos are black and white I like a bit of color, so mine will be green and blue. I will get a pic of it and post when I can.
Wish me luck.

If there is anyway we can help out grotto members in the affected states I would be willing to help out. maybe we can send e-mails or call their listed contacts and see what assistance they need or thier members. I can bring it up at my grotto members once we know what is needed.

my local community college is having a class on bats and how to build a bat house. I signed up and I know at least one other girl in my grotto is going. too bad more schools don't have this sort of thing. Its just a 3 day class in the continuing educaiton programs, but still very cool. I will report back on the sotrs of things we learn.
