Working West Virginia: Caving Local cavers say West Virginia has more than four thousand limestone caves. They say people go caving for science and for fun. We explored Bowden Cave. Story by Hilary Magacs
BOWDEN -- The first thing we did at Bowden Cave was crawl through a 50 foot passageway, which was only about three feet high.
The cavers then explained what I was getting myself into, as far as creatures were concerned.
"We'll probably see some bats. It's October now, almost November. There might be some bats in here that are starting to hibernate. We'll see some small brown bats or pipistrels," said George Phillips, a cave mapper and explorer.
