Injured caver expected to be trapped into the small hours A team of eight cavers assembled from commercial "adventure" companies in the Waitomo area of the King Country are trying to rescue a recreational caver who has broken her hip underground in the Luckie Strike cave. Senior Sergeant Robert Van Kalken from Te Kuiti said the woman suffered injuries in a fall in the cave near Ngapaenga, 32km west of Te Kuiti. "The woman was 40-60 minutes into the cave when the fall happened, she suffered a broken hip and lost three teeth and fell into a stream. "A companion managed to pull her from the stream and cover her in a survival blanket before coming out to raise the alarm," Mr Van Kalken said. Full Article

What's good is that the woman expected to be there for a while. Several rescues I've been on as (IRT) found the victim to be panicky and just plain wanting to get out NOW. It's hard to be the one to tell them that it'll be a while getting them out.
Must've been a pretty bad fall to sustain those type of injuries... wonder what exactly was she climbing/doing??
