State plans to buy 1,564 acres near Lookout Mountain
The state Board of Natural Resources unanimously approved plans Wednesday to buy 1,564 acres near Lookout Mountain in northwest Georgia, creating a link between two state-owned natural areas.
Steve Friedman, chief of real estate for the Department of Natural Resources, said the state has not decided how to manage the land, located in one of the state's top six land conservation priority areas.
The land sits between Zahnd Natural Area and Crockford-Pigeon Mountain Wildlife Management Area. The area is popular among cavers, rock climbers, hikers and mountain bikers.
