Hash and Demaree receive honor from U.S. Fish and Wildlife ServiceBENTON COUNTY — Brett Hash and Pat Demaree, owners of Northwest Land Development and the Creeks Golf Course, were awarded the highest honor from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on March 8 for their efforts to conserve the Ozark cavefish. Half of all the world’s known Ozark cavefish dwell in the Cave Springs Cave. Hash and Demaree were awarded for their donation of land above the Cave Springs Cave to the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, and for Hash’s execution of a step sewer system on The Creeks Golf Course. Hash and the USFWS negotiated a donation of land to the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission directly above the known cave passage. The land was appraised at current land value but would have a greater value if subdivided and developed. In addition to the donated land, Hash and Demaree agreed to implement Community Growth BMPs for the Cave Springs Cave recharge zone, developed by the USFWS Arkansas Field Office. Through the combined efforts of Hash, Demaree and other local developers, including Gary Brandon and Collins Haynes, land has been set aside to allow for natural function of the cave environment and protection of an endangered species. nwanews.com/bcdr/News/33138/
