There’s More To Chattanooga Than A Choo-ChooBy Eric Millirons, special correspondent, Western Chesterfield Exchange " Ruby Falls is one of the area’s main attractions. According to Bob White, an employee of the falls, “about 400,000 people come here every year to visit.” When asked why they came, he responded rather gleefully, “How many caves have a 145-foot waterfall?” Situated a few hundred feet above the base of the mountain range is the entrance to the falls. Here one can purchase a ticket for a guided hour-long tour. On holiday weekends, long lines can often be encountered; however, the tours move fairly quickly and before long you will be face to face with the elevator that will take you into the bowels of the earth. Be advised, that this tour is not handicapped accessible and not for the claustrophobic either. After descending about 260 feet, the doors will spring open and reveal a cave that was discovered during the late 1920’s. In order to make your experience more pleasurable than that of the discover, Leo Lambert, a passageway along the same 18 inch high “cave” has been excavated to where you are able to stand upright for the most part, but occasionally must duck in order to avoid banging your head on the overhead rocks. Since the “cave” is narrow, you will frequently be asked to “hug the walls” as other tourists, having finished their tour, exit past you. " Full Article
