Officials celebrate purchase of wildlife reserve Tim Carlfeldt October 30, 2006 The addition of 1,780 acres to the Crockford-Pigeon Mountain Wildlife Management Area near LaFayette has officials happy for the end of a long sale process and looking toward the next step. Holcomb said that with this purchase the rock brow of the mountain is now completely protected, as well as many primary trout streams. He also noted that with the popularity of several recreational pastimes, from hunting and hang gliding to biking, horseback riding and caving, this popular area — estimated to get 150,000 visitors per year — is poised for an incredible boost in eco-tourism for Northwest Georgia. Pigeon Mountain (in Northwest Georgia) has some of the deepest caves in the world, as well as many unexplored biological resources. Full Article
