Tag-Net contained a very good article about "Pretend Rope" by Bruce Smith. It is so doubtful that any experienced caver would even consider buying "Pretend Rope" to use for caving. But new caver's might purchase it because they do not know the difference. Any way, here's just a few links which new caver's can compare rope quality, information, etc, before buying. I saw Bruce's message too. This is a potentially dangerous situation, as you said particularly for newer vertical cavers who may not realize the difference between rope made for caving and the knock-off rope. Once the warning label is worn off, it would be difficult to tell it was "pretend" rope. Scary.
