The Aqueducts of Todi - Great Photos by Luca CavallariWe have received photos taken by Luca Cavallari during the first underground survey of the ancient aqueducts in the area of the city of Todi, which is north of Rome, Italy in the Umbria region. The images are wonderful and let us see the the perfect conservation of the various underground areas surveyed. The exceptional photographs show cisterns, tunnels and well shafts dating back to the Etruscan and Roman civilizations. I can't believe how well preserved all that stuff is!! Did they hire cavers to document it, or how did they get involved in the project?

Kelly, thanks for your note. I am Larry Ray here in the USA who does the translations for the Napoliunderground.org site in Naples, Italy. The photos come from a friend in Rome who is an urban speleologist as well as a caver and he sends us his really super photos from time to time. He was performing the first survey and mapping of these centuries old cisterns, tunnels and well shafts probably for the Umbria region and city of Todi. Pretty neat, huh??! Larry

Hi Larry and welcome to the forum. Thanks for providing the translations and giving more information on the aquaducts. Yes, it is neat. From the photo, the ancient Roman cistern looks like an impressive piece of architecture.

Wow! Amazing photo's! And it is also amazing to see how well preserved these ancient cisterns, aqueducts, tunnels and well shafts are. It is so great to hear they are actively surveying and mapping these significant resources. Thanks Larry for providing all the translations. ;D
