Visitor’s body removed from underwater cave

KAANAPALI – A 53-year-old woman’s body was pulled from an underwater cave at Black Rock in Kaanapali on Sunday morning, said a Maui Fire official.
Battalion Chief Alan Pascua said lifeguards and fire-rescue personnel retrieved the tourist’s body after she was found in shallow waters wedged in a cave near the shore. The woman, who apparently had been snorkeling, was unresponsive and without a pulse when rescue workers brought her to the beach fronting the Sheraton Maui, he said.
He said the fire crews received a call at 10:08 a.m. with a rescue team from the Lahaina station on scene at 10:16 a.m. Maui County ocean safety officers from Hanakaoo Beach Park were also called and assisted in retrieving the victim, he said.
