B.C. fails to protect caves, karst featuresAlberni Valley community members remain concerned with current legislation governing protection of forest resources from industrial development on private and Crown land. For example, reports recently indicated that government will not be protecting karst systems or features in the Beaufort Range. That's unfortunate for water-licence holders and wildlife and fisheries that depend on cold, uncontaminated groundwater. Karst terrain plays a major hydrologic transport role, redirecting runoff and interflow underground, thereby recharging aquifers utilized for commercial and domestic water supplies. Full Article
