City, contractors to pay $1 million in dumping lawsuitKNOXVILLE (AP) -- The city of Knoxville and its contractors have agreed to pay about $1 million to settle a lawsuit. They are accused of dumping contaminated dirt from the Coster Shop rail yard redevelopment project into a sinkhole that tainted residents' water wells. The settlement apparently was reached in December, but hasn't been finalized yet by U.S. District Judge Thomas W. Phillips. Until that happens, a gag order remains in effect. Full Article
