Owners' heads swimming after sinkhole gobbles up pool shop 11/8/2005 1:43:38 AM Daily Journal By Jennifer Farish and Regina Butler PONTOTOC Crews are working to fill in a deep sinkhole that swallowed part of a store in late October. The hole, at the old Sunflower shopping center on Lafayette Street, caused extensive damage to the North Mississippi Pools store owned by Kevin and Tina Floyd. Tina said she walked into the store Oct. 25 and found her desk 30 feet down in a sinkhole along with most of the store. "Tina called me at 9 o'clock and said I'm here, but the store isn't,' " Kevin said. The sinkhole, which measured about 22 feet wide and 30 feet deep, caved in the floors of the business and a vacant store that once was a respiratory therapy business. It is one of two sinkholes that have developed in Pontotoc since Hurricane Katrina brought heavy rain in late August and early September.
