Has anyone used the OtterBox waterproof box to protect any cave gear? I wondered how the OtterBox measures up in comparison to the Pelican Cases. www.otterbox.com/

Lynn, I use one of the earlier versions, the Otterbox 2500 series, to carry my digital camera in. Got it in 2000 and it has remained waterproof even when wet. The only problem I've had with the case is that the little tab that you use to hook it on to something is located on the corner of the box and I ended up breaking it off. I tended to carry it hooked to my seat harness with a biner and it took some fairly rough bangs, which may have caused the tab to break. This break probably could have been avoided if I'd carried the case in my cave pack, but I've found if my camera is quick and easy to get to I'll take more spur of the moment photos. The company does or did have a replacement policy, which I haven't tried to use so have no idea how well they may respond to request. Someone else may have additional information.

;D No, it doesn't seem so. Caves are a rough environment. Companies could really do some great endurance testing on their products by giving them to cavers and seeing how long they hold up. Any volunteers?

Bet they would have to twist a few arms to get caving test volunteers.
