With gas prices such as they are I wondered what the drive time would be for other cavers to attend their closest grotto meeting.
For the grotto's closest to us the drive time (round trip) is:
2.0 hour - SCCG 2.25 hour - SMG 3.0 hour - NG
What is the drive time for every one else? Have the higher gas prices had an effect on your attendance?

The SoCoMoGro meeting moved to within a 5 minute drive of my house. CG is 1Hr 15min. and the FRG meeting is about 2 Hrs. drive. both are in Denver. Western Slope Grotto is 5 and 1/2 hours, but I'm still planning to make their next meeting.

For the three grottos closest to me the round trip drive times would be: 10 minutes 1.45 hours 2.0 hours Though on occasion I have driven to further away grotto meetings at 6.0 hours. Not so much now as gas prices continue to fluctuate.

Heck, I wish we had a grotto that's just a 5 or 10 minute drive.

The closest grotto to us here, would be
about 2 hr round trip PMG 3 hr round trip BGG
I know one is having meetings but I haven't heard of the closer one having any meetings.

Well, depends on which city the meeting is held in or if it's held during a caving weekend.
Normally 4.5 hours....one way Sometimes 3 hours....one way
Caving weekend meeting....1-6 hours...one way-depending on location.
I made 2 meetings last year and was pretty proud of that!
Thank God for email. Without that, our grotto would have died 3 years ago.

30 minutes for the two closest grottos. They meet in the same building on different nights.
I guess the American Grotto people are closer (about 10 minutes) but I've never had any reason to check them out.

For the grotto's closest to us the drive time (round trip) is: 2.0 hour - SCCG 2 hours round trip? It only takes me 45 minutes to get from my house to the B-Cave near your house. Maybe you need to find a shorter route, or drive faster! ;D I have a feeling the most recent gas prices will really put a damper on meeting attendance, if not all caving activities. The market near my house hiked their regular unleaded up to $3.19 last weekend, though they just dropped it back to $3.09. I've never been more happy with my Toyota, which makes 32mpg, but still, I never thought I would have to spend $35 to fill it up.

Only when I get Cave Exit fever... (i.e., someone mentions food, or Bull steps on a barking cave spider)

Yeah, but, but... your house is 10 minutes closer to my house than B-Cave, isn't it? Nope. Add 15 minutes to your 45 minutes - don't subtract. You have to pass B Cave, P Cave, S Cave and R Cave and then you are sort of near our house. OR you can drive the alternate route and pass BS Cave and CS Cave and again then you are sort of near our house.

We now have the newest NSS grotto about 1 hour South of me in Canyon City. It's called the Red Canyon Grotto. I'm hoping to make their first official meeting in June. That's two new grotto's in Colorado in the last year! I can't think of a better way to recrute new members than to encourage new grottos to form.
