Our grotto is considering a clean-up project in Guffey Cave. Mainly to dispose of the large amounts of used carbide dumped on the ground throughout the cave along with any other debris. Does anyone have recomendations on the proper way to collect and dispose of such material?

I would use rubber gloves and some sort of small shovel and whisk broom to put it into zip locks to get it out of the cave. Don't forget to wear some type of eye protection also. If it is spent, you shouldn't have to worry about it giving off acetylene gas, but having a respirator handy and keeping open flame away from the material as you remove it would be a wise precaution. I'd also double bag it to keep it contained in your pack. If the cave was large enough, I'd use a 5 gallon bucket with lid to transport it out of the cave in.
