Plans have been made by Spencer Mountain Grotto in a clean up effort at Camps Gulf on Saturday July 16, 2005, 9:00 a.m. CST. Paul Moser will lead the clean up project for more information about the clean up contact Paul. Everyone who has caved, camped and/or enjoyed the area is cordially invited to participate. Bring along trash bags, your strong backs and a good attitude, along with some refreshments.
Fall Creek Falls State Park is the owner of Camp's Gulf and the cave. Spencer Mountain Grotto members; Steve MacDonell, Rosemarie MacDonell, Virginia Holland and Billy Holland have assisted the park and maintained this area for over a ten year period. John Hoffelt a Nashville Grotto member also helps maintain the area during his monthly survey trips. Spencer Mountain Grotto now finds with the escalating trash that they simply do not have the resources for the continued maintenance on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
Also, the trail is becoming very rutted and in the future may possibly receive a trail gate, if conditions do not improve. The area needs this immediate clean up as well as continual future clean ups by cavers and visitors to help avoid the possibility of gating of the trail that leads to the camping area.
Our goals for July 16th are to remove trash from the trail, camping area, cave, the trash can and some trail maintenance. Over the years Fall Creek Falls State Park has been and continues to be more than kind to organized caver’s. Wouldn’t it be nice to show our appreciation and return this kindness by helping them clean this area?
If you cannot make it to this weekends clean up then please help by always packing out the trash you pack in and cleaning up trash whenever you visit the area.
Looking forward to seeing all of you there,
The Spencer Mountain Grotto
