Hey Sharon, I see you have a nice Avatar on all your posts. I used one of the canned ones but would really like to add my own avatar image. The instructions say to put a URL to where your avatar image is. I am wondering if you can or should do this from your own PC or from some website? Can you give further details about doing this?
Thanks,

Sure, I considered posting instuctions earlier, but thought it seemed presumptuous of me to assume anyone might need them. So, thanks for asking, others may have the same question. To upload an image for an avatar (your photo placed under your name), you will not be able to upload an image from just your computer. You will need a photo that is hosted somewhere on a website. There are several free services that host photos on the web. Here is the link for imageshack: imageshack.us/index.php Go to the area with a blank space and the browse button at the end of it. Click on browse and you will be able to select any image from your computer and click on it, and it will automatically upload to imageshack. You should see a URL listed underneath the photo. Simply highlight it and hit copy and then go to U.S. Cavers Forum. In your profile paste the copied URL into the box provided. To upload a photo in the area of your post, it is basically done the same way. Start like you are creating a post and look for the little image sign above the smilies (looks like a little post card or stamp). Click on that and you will see this text ![]() and then this text [/img pop up in the reply box, then paste your URL in between ![]() paste here [/img and the photo will show up in the post. If your URL has quotation marks on each end such as "on each end" these will need to be removed for it to work. *Foot note: You can specify your own custom width and height for your avatar, but they must be no more than 100x100 pixels. I think mine is 87 x 99 pixels. Hope this helps.

Sharon
Not only is your suggested "ImageShack" site free and easy - if you are a Mac OS X user - they have a cool widget for dragging images that upload directly to the site making it super easy to use. I successfully loaded up a recent photo of myself as my avatar. Hope it doesn't come across as too self-centered. ;D
