The caves of Maribel photo galleryJuly 27, 2007 Cherney Maribel Caves County Park near Maribel is more than just another place to pull over and enjoy a picnic this summer. The park boasts relaxing trails, a small waterfall, limestone bluffs and breathtaking caves — some which have yet to be discovered. Photojournalist Jaslyn Gilbert of the Herald Times Reporter recently spent time at the park with J.D. Skattebo and Letha Welch, who coordinate park and cave tours. View her photo gallery. Members of the Wisconsin Speleological Society and The Friends of Maribel Caves continue to excavate New Hope Cave, which was discovered in the winter of 1984. Cherney Maribel Caves was designated a State Natural Area in 1967. The cave is open to the public on weekends during digs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and by appointment.
