A pass along from the Print Salon Chair:
Dear Cave Photographers,
With less than two weeks to go, this reminder is rather late. If you are planning to enter prints in the 2007 print salon in Indiana, or know someone who is entering, or should be entering, please read this and pass it along.
There have been a few big changes to the print salon this year.
1. Earlier deadline for prints at convention
If you are bringing your prints to the salon, you must get them to me between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday, July 21. If you can't make it by noon, but can make it by, say, 5 p.m., please e-mail me ASAP so that I can leave spaces for your prints. Let me know how many and the outer dimension (height and width) of the matte or print - which ever is the larger. My e-mail is ann@cavepics.com
If you cannot make it to convention on Saturday, you may consider two alternatives.
a. Mail your print to Bob Ehr in Indiana. Yes, the deadline has passed, but as long as you get it there by Thursday, 19 July, we can handle it.
b. Give your prints to a trustworthy friend who is going to the geology field trip on Sunday. For a list of who is registered on the trip, look at www.nss2007.com/register/whois/2007regactivity.php
Again, if your friend cannot make it by noon on Saturday, e-mail me so I can save space for your work.
2. No "Traditional" category
There will be only two categories - Color and Black & White. Too few people were doing darkroom work to support the third category.
3. Prints can be offered for sale
This will be a trial year to see how it works. If you are interested in having your prints offered to cavers who are attending convention, please come to a meeting at the print salon at 10 a.m. on Monday morning to discuss how we can all work co-operatively to achieve this. If you can't make it, but are interested, please contact me.
4. Earlier Opening
The earlier deadline means that the salon will open on Monday by noon.
For full details on how to enter the salon, please read the item in the February NSS News and check out the print salon web page at www.caves.org/committee/salons/Print.shtml
Please note my request for DIGITAL files of a head-and-shoulders portrait of the photographer. It must be head and shoulders as it will be used quite small on Salon night.
Please feel free to post this message to any caver electronic bulletin board - local, regional or national. You may also forward it to any cave photographer who may be interested in entering.
Good luck with your entries, and see you in Indiana!
