I have an Olympus D-535 Zoom Camedia. Ok, it is just a couple year old cheap 3.2MP camera-- it does well enough for what I use it for.
Yesterday I was on a photo shoot for one of the papers I write for, and as usual, was slinging both the Pentax WR-90 35mm point and shoot and the Camedia. Was in a barn with a concrete floor. Slung a little too fast, and the Camedia bounced out of my hand, about 3.5 ft straight down onto the concrete. Crash. Smash. The case popped open, and stayed open. Oh #$#@)@! I immediately took out the batteries...I wasn't too concerned about photos, because I have a card reader at home. Put it in the car, and was able to look at it after I voted a couple hours later.
It seems the plastic case is put together with little aluminum or pot metal pegs--the impact had sheared a nubbin off the peg, which was propping the camera open. Now, the only thing I've ever seen which looked nearly that bad was a couple of cameras we had retrieved some years back from beneath the tourist trail at Mammoth Dome.
Anyway, I wiggled the little netty piece off, worked the case back together, put the batteries back in--and IT WORKS! like nothing ever happened.
Man, there go my dreams of a new digital, but what a champ!
