I've two friends that recently moved to Kuwait from Quintana Roo. They are experienced cave divers, however I don't know if they have vertical experience or equipment. They are interested to know if there is someone they might contact concerning cave exploration (dry and/or wet) in Oman.
I know I read something a while ago about NSS members caving in Oman. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Jim, John and Suzy Pint have done quite a bit of exploration of caves in that region (Middle East). They might have some contacts for cavers in the generalized area or possibly other caving information available. Unless their email has changed, it used to be thepints@saudicaves.comHope this helps.

Hi Jim: Oman is a bit different from the other Arabian countries. The ground rules are probably still different - I do not know them as of 2005. I worked there in the 80's and loved the country. The entrance pits are generally 40-300 meters. There are some great cave dives into fresh water springs in the ocean. Very little of the good stuff is trivial. You might check with Cheryl Jones or Omar Al Ja'aidi (I really do not know who he is - perhaps tourism department and not a caver - I just don't know). Google "Oman Caves". The good news is that English seems to be the language of real communication. The older Omanis speak such an archaic version of Arabic that even modern Arabic speakers have a very difficult time of communicating. Of course, times change and there is a younger generation ----.

Dwight, thanks for your advice on the Oman caves. Oman sounds like a very interesting area, especially the non-trivial nature of the entrance pits!. I'll pass your thoughts along to my friends in Kuwait. I doubt that they have the equipment to drop pits like these, but I am sure they will be interested in the FW boils in the ocean. Thanks!
Jim
