Hello all... Anyone see the movie "The Descent". I bought it the other night at Wal-mart and took it to the station and watched it. Pretty good movie, I know they can't get the lighting completely right and still be able to see any of the characters in the movie, that is probably the biggest thing I seen that was different than most of my caving experiences. Aside from the cave ghouls, ha ha. Not ran into any of those guys down there yet. Just wondering if anyone else seen the movie.

But maybe today is a good day to get a copy of the movie to watch since our caving plans fell through. Muhahaha If you haven't seen any cave ghouls yet you need to do more 'deep' caving! Muhahaha

Hmmm...my brother saw it last Friday, and said it was ok as a $1bargain bin rental, but skip it if the price went to $2.50. Told me the climbing scenes, outfits, techniques etc., were enough to scream "HELP, someone bring these people above ground. Quickly!!"
Tony, just keep telling yourself--it's only a movie and you'll be OK, but Bill said not to try this at home using this as a training film.
Ice picks in a cave? Come now...

Alright...I went to Best Buy today looking for Beer League, which they were sold out of, so I bought The Decent, based on the good reviews. I don't normally buy DVDs unless it's a great movie that I've seen before, but what the hell, I bought it anyways. All in all, I thought it was a pretty good movie, especially if you're a caver, since the whole movie was about caving and being in caves. I wouldn't buy the dvd again, but if you can rent it, why not.

You know I have yet to find myself in a caving situation where I have needed my Ice Axe. Yet I hear it makes a fine weapon to fight killer HODAGS.

Ho-Hum, my ice axe doesn't work in TAG. There is a The Descent film review by David Thomas that a few cavers on the forum might like to read. " A huge hit last summer in its native Britain, writer/director Neil Marshall's The Descent finally hits the States with a compelling mix of action and horror. Not since Aliens have the two genres fit so seamlessly, if on a much smaller scale here. Marshall throws in a few twists on convention as well, just to keep things fresh. The result is a film that gives back some meaning to the otherwise overused "thrill ride. " Filmcritic.com

I saw it and loved it.
It's just a movie, It's not a training video. The caving scenes were much more realistic than many I have seen. Sure they took some creative liberties with things in certain places, but all in all it was a fun movie.
The scene where the cavers are in the crawlway and the passage starts to fall around them was the best.......
