The 55th Annual SERA Summer Cave Carnival will take place on June 1, 2, 3 & 4, 2006 at beautiful Buck's Pocket State Park, Alabama, near Scottsboro, Alabama. Buck's Pocket State Park, Alabama encompasses 2,000 acres secluded in a small canyon near Lake Guntersville. The campground is alongside South Sauty Creek in the bottom of the canyon. Towering over 450 feet above is Point Rock Overlook and the adjacent picnic and dayuse areas. Morgan's Cove, seven miles away in park boundaries, provides a boat ramp and fishing piers. There are six miles of hiking trails within the park. One trail leads from the campground area to Point Rock Overlook (somewhat hard) and another trail follows South Sauty Creek (moderate, 2 miles) to a very primitive camping area. POINT ROCK: a 1/8 mile boardwalk with steps leads from the picnic parking area at the rim of the canyon along the ridge to Point Rock. From here, you'll have magnificent views of the canyon's rocky outcrops and the campground below. CAG has also obtained a rather large pasture area on top of the rim of the canyon for overflow / more secluded camping. At this time ALL OF THE WATER & ELECTRIC CAMPSITES ARE TAKEN. Don't miss four days of the CAVING, FELLOWSHIP, CAMPING, FUN and this year "THE MIDWAY"! CAG plans on putting the "CARNIVAL" into the SERA Cave Carnival in 2006! We will have all types of "CARNIVAL-ish" activities during Saturday night's events and the "Cave In Theater" will have nightly showings of cave related movies and such! Come one.... Come all.... Don't miss all of the FUN! www.caves.org/grotto/cag/SERA.htm

Those are some cool pictures Sharon......looks like a fun time was had by all. Thanks for sharing. I need to make it back East to one of these great caver get togethers. The closest one to me is MVOR, and the one time I made it, I had a blast.

I think this was one of the best SERA events I have attended. I very much enjoyed the entire event. Not only did we have fun, attend a friends wedding on a bluff high above the event, see our old friends, enjoy good food, camp out in wonderful weather, meet new friends, and help clean up a local cave - we even got to lead a spontaneous trip back to that cave after the event for those heading home. That was just icing on the cake. Thanks CAG! I had a great weekend!

I'll talk it up at our grotto meeting tomarrow. I've always wanted to check out both OTR and Tag fall cave in. The SERA cave carnival looks like another event I need to plan to attend in the future. It's hard for me to get even one day off between Memorial day and the 4th of July.

That sounds like a good idea Dan. Both TAG or OTR are held in the Fall, maybe folks would have more time free then. Both of these are large (over 1,000 cavers) and fun events held in good caving regions.
