National Coordinator
The National Coordinator is a member of the Board of Regional Coordinators, acts as the National Cave Rescue Commission's executive officer and director, and presides at all meetings of the Commission. He or she is responsible for appointing a Financial Officer, appointing and managing committees to accomplish the various tasks and goals established by the Commission, and submitting regular reports on the status of Commission activities to the NSS Administrative Vice-President. Additional duties, described in the NCRC Charter, include: acting as a spokesperson on issues of cave rescue policy and operations; serving as a liaison with federal, state, and local authorities; assisting with development of training standards and curricula, assisting and providing information to NSS internal organizations, maintaining an equipment cache and inventory for use in training and rescue, maintaining resource lists of cave rescue trained persons, and other duties as assigned by the NSS Administrative Vice-President or Board of Governors. The National Coordinator serves a term of three years, and faces no term limits.
Education Board Member-at-Large
The Education Board Member-at-Large is a voting member of the Education Board, a subcommittee of the Board of Regional Coordinators (BORC). He or she works with the Education Board, which includes several members of the BORC, to draft training policies and procedures, curricula, and educational materials. Education Board members serve two-year terms and face no term limits.
Database Manager
The Database Manager maintains a computerized record of all NCRC training, students and instructors. He or she is responsible for several mailings each year and for developing reports at the request of the NSS, NCRC Education Board and NCRC Regional and National Coordinators. Expertise in the use of database and spreadsheet software is required. The Database Manager is a voting member of the NCRC Education Board, serves a two-year term and faces no term limits.
Suggested Qualifications
Persons nominated for National Coordinator should have both caving and rescue experience and significant NCRC training. They should be in tune with national cave rescue training needs, and be able to effectively manage meetings and facilitate the NCRC's ongoing activities via phone, e-mail and mail. Education Board nominees should have experience with NCRC curricula, be experienced in both caving and rescue, and skilled at curriculum development. Each position requires a significant commitment of time, the ability to travel to attend meetings approximately twice yearly, and regular access to e-mail.
