Two men trapped in cave complexBBC 16 March 2008 Two cavers have been cut off by flood waters underground at the Dan-yr-Ogof caves in the Swansea Valley.Dan-yr-Ogof caves were discovered in 1912The men, who are local are two miles from the end the National Showcaves Centre for Wales, are in a dry area. The alarm was raised by security staff at the complex at 2200 GMT on Saturday and contact was made with the cavers at 0615 GMT. Mountain rescue teams said divers will assess the situation but the men are not in any immediate danger. Brian Jopling from the West Brecon Cave Rescue team which is involved in the rescue operation said the cavers have access to a cache of food which is kept in the caves and are in telephone contactt. Hi. what you read in the press is substantially true. Most of the cave rescue teams in the UK are just cave rescue but the press often confuse us with mountain rescue, in this instance only cavers were involved. It was really just a waiting game. DYO lakes are flood prone and we maintain a rescue dump for such an occasion. We did have a problem with the fixed telephone line but established contact with the trapped party. Cave divers established that they could dive through in very high water so it was just a case of waiting until the water subsided. Thankfully the weather obliged.

All's well that ends well. It was smart to have needed supplies and equipment in place for an eventual rescue situation. Well done!
