At its Jan. 31 meeting, the Jo Daviess County Development and Planning Committee voted, 4-3, to not recommend the Bos family's applications. County board member Beth Baranski, who also serves on the committee, said she feels there is evidence the sites proposed are in a karst area. One of the state's criteria involves so-called karst areas, or areas of irregular limestone in which erosion has produced fissures, sinkholes, underground streams and caverns.
