We are proud to report that our home-brew web site has just marked its 4-millionth visit since its inception four years ago. Checking the archive of articles, the first one posted on page 74 of the article archive is dated: 23 Novembre 2003 - 01:49 PM (1865 Reads)
There is no fancy IT department, no paid staff, just the devotion of Fulvio Salvi and his very computer savvy son and university student, Sirio, working from their home. There have been computer meltdowns, patched together equipment and the continuing battle with the less than state-of-the-art local telephone service in the ancient town of Quarto, a suburb of Naples, Italy. What there has been plenty of however, is years of speleological experience and enthusiasm by Fulvio and his talented exploration buddies.
One in particular, "Ipogeo" whose real name is Luca, is a multi talented individual, engineer, superb photographer, and professional explorer/engineer/videographer. His contributions to NUg have been substantial including establishing a solid presence on YouTube, establishment of "Comments from Around the World" an international forum, and breathtaking photography just to mention a couple of his contributions to the site.
Fulvio has continued expansion of our presence on other international web sites. We are grateful for the support and interest of fine friends like Jhoannis Zenas founder of WCN, and other sites like darkplaces.co.uk, U.S. Cavers Forum, UER, and others in Brazil and even Cuba! These extremely popular international English language web sites regularly post our articles, many of which I have had the pleasure of translating.
In April of this year we reached the 3-million hits mark and now just three months later we have reached the 4-million hits mark. Largely as a result of this web site, a fantastic article on the Sottosuolo, or underground of Naples, was published in the Italian edition of National Geographic last December; urban explorers from New York City, Moscow, Russia and many other international cities have come to meet Fulvio, Luca, and the other speleologists and friends associated with NUg. The development of engineer Clemente Esposito's "Museum of the Naples Underground" is closely linked to this site. The support and input from Clemente, the unquestioned Don of urban exploration beneath the ancient city of Naples, has been invaluable.
But most important in reaching the 4-million mark are you, our visitors and readers who help us tell the magical, ancient story of the "parallel city" that honeycombs its way beneath modern day Naples. Our thanks and appreciation to all of you!
