GPR device soon to check rock by BRYAN WALKER, NationNews.com STATE-OF-THE-ART EQUIPMENT to test Barbados' coral rock for caves, cracks and underground water flows should be in the island by next month. Director of the Natural Resources Division of the Ministry of Energy and the Environment, André Brathwaite, told the WEEKEND NATION Government was sourcing ground penetrating radar (GPR) machinery to go beyond the commonly used bore hole testing. "The ministry is actively seeking to acquire this equipment and training for its personnel so we can have a better idea of the extent of underground caves," he said in an interview this week. He could not say as yet what would be the cost, but research showed most GPR systems fell in the US$15 000 (BDS$30 000) to US$50 000 (BDS$100 000) range. Full Text
