5 announcements are included
1. Special Publication 10 - Climate Change: The Karst Record IV - now available
Karst Waters Institute Special Publication 10 - Climate Change: The Karst Record IV, is now available for purchase ($64) at the KWI website karstwaters.org/publications/curpubslist.htm

2. Future Directions in Karst Research Workshop
KWI is sponsoring a workshop to evaluate future directions in karst research. The workshop will bring together biologists, biogeochemists, microbial ecologists, hydrogeologists, and geomorphologists who have an interest in advancing all aspects of karst science. The workshop will in part assess the current state of knowledge, but its primary function will be to identify gaps in that knowledge and to describe (and write down) a road map for closing those gaps. There is no registration fee.
May 3 - 5, 2007
Omni Hotel in San Antonio, Texas.
Information can be found at

3. International Conference on Karst Hydrogeology and Ecosystems (Karst2007), August 13-19, 2007 at Western Kentucky University, USA, First Announcement
The International Conference on Karst Hydrogeology and Ecosystems (Karst2007) will be held August 13-19, 2007 at Western Kentucky University. Sponsors are Western Kentucky University, the Patel Center
for Global Solutions, the Karst Waters Institute, and the Mammoth Cave International Center for Science and Learning. The meeting is hosted by the WKU Hoffman Environmental Research Institute, and this conference is a joint meeting of the four major international karst research groups: 1) the UNESCO International Geoscience Program (IGCP) Project 513: Global Study of Karst Aquifers and Water Resources; 2) The International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) Karst Commission; 3) the International Geographical Union (IGU) Karst Commission, and 4) the Union Internationale de Spéléologie Commission on Karst Hydrogeology and Speleogenesis. This follows two successful similar meetings held at WKU in 1998 and 2003. The conference website can be found at <http://hoffman.wku.edu/karst2007/k2007.html>.
To be added to the conference email list, please contact IGCP513 Secretary Beth Medley at <mailto:karst2007@gmail.com>.
4. Second Appalachian Karst Symposium, First Announcement.
A symposium on Appalachian Karst is planned for September 12-15, 2007, to be hosted by East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in Johnson City, Tennessee. KWI is a co-sponsor. Information will be available and updated at: www.etsu.edu/physics/appkarst/
Following the success of the 1991 Appalachian Karst Symposium, this symposium will foster communications and exchange ideas about scientific studies and environmental conservations in the Appalachian karst region.
CALL FOR PAPERS, ORGANIZERS, SPONSORS, and PRE-REGISTRATION
Please let us know if any individual, organization, or company is interested in helping to organize and sponsor this symposium. If you are interested in attending or contributing a paper, please help us estimate the number of potential attendees by sending an e-mail to <<mailto:appkarst.etsu.edu>appkarst@etsu.edu>.
5) Session at Fall AGU Meeting - From Karst to Catchment
Daniel Doctor would like to call your attention to a session at the fall AGU meeting entitled: "From Karst to Catchment: preferential flow processes in surface and subsurface hydrologic systems". The deadline for abstract submissions has passed.
You may find more information at the following website:
www.agu.org/meetings/fm06/review/?content=search&show=detail&sessid=410
6. KWI Symposium - "Time in Karst" - Postojna, Slovenia March 14-18, 2007
You are cordially invited to the symposium on "Time in Karst" to be held in Postojna, Slovenia, March 14 to March 18, 2007. The meeting will be held at the Karst Research Institute, and participants may stay at the nearby Hotel Jama and Hotel Sport. Registration details are available at www.karstwaters.org The registration fee is $350 US ($200 for students).
The idea of the symposium is simple one-to examine what we know and what we can infer about the ages of caves, of karst landscapes, and of the organisms that inhabit them. This work is often scattered in the literature of different disciplines, and we think that there is much to be gained by bringing together leading researchers who work on time processes in karst.
The symposium will have two parts. The first part will be presentations by invited speakers. The presentations will be grouped around six themes, which have strong interdisciplinary character. The second part will be an extensive contributed poster session. All participants are invited to present posters and to submit abstracts for publication in the conference proceedings.
The symposium is sponsored by the Karst Research Institute ZRC SAZU in Slovenia and the Karst Waters Institute in the United States. Papers and abstracts of the posters presented at the conference will be published in conference proceedings, simultaneously published as an issue of Acta Carsologica and a Special Publication of the Karst Waters Institute.
The deadline for submission of abstracts of poster presentations is November 1, 2006. The deadline for registration is February 15, 2007.
We hope to see you at this unique meeting.
