On October 27, 2005, the Barton Springs/ Edwards Aquifer Conservation District declared a Stage I Drought on the basis of water levels in monitor wells falling to designated trigger levels. Rainfall has been scarce, and the Barton Springs segment of the Edwards Aquifer is approaching serious groundwater drought conditions. I hope you will take a moment to read the new Aquifer Bulletin, which focuses on what is happening to our aquifer and what we can do to optimize groundwater use. More on the drought can be found in the January - April 2006 Aquifer Bulletin: www.bseacd.org/newsletters/currentnewsletter.pdf (You may need to select the address, copy it, and paste it into your browser.)
