9/30/05-Smith County The Sinkhole Will Be FixedThe giant sinkhole will soon be fixed.TXDOT does not not know what caused the sinkhole, but TxDOT says it knows how to fix it. It says it will begin to fill up that giant sinkhole in Smith County next week. The massive hole is located on FM 724, where it first appeared at the end of June. It measures about 100 feet wide and 25 feet deep. TxDOT says after a lot of research it determined the hole is stable and ready to be worked on. On Monday it will fill the hole with concrete, sand and gravel materials. TXDot says it will also replace about 1,000 feet of pavement. "It is a big project," said TxDOT Public Information Officer Larry Krantz. "It's certainly an unusual project. We don't have a whole lot like this. A lot of what we've done on this project is the first time we've ever had to do this type of testing or certain kind of exploration, so in a way that's kind of made the project take a little longer than some have anticipated." TxDOT says the project will be done by the end of the year. It will cost about $400,00.00. ---- Molly Reuter, reporting. mreuter@kltv.com www.kltv.com/Global/story.asp?S=3922645&nav=1TjD
