NG Live Home - Washington, D.C. - Masters of Photography Step into astonishing underground worlds with Stephen L. Alvarez, an award-winning photographer who has established a reputation worldwide for his skill at documenting all things subterranean. His most recent assignment, for the September 2006 National Geographic, found him in New Britain’s vast Ora Doline cave system where he followed 11 cavers and documented a stunningly beautiful world of raging white water, shimmering tunnels, and a cathedral-like cavern enclosing a turquoise lake. His assignments have sent him into Central America’s longest cave, rappelling into the bowels of spectacular Majlis al Jinn—a cave more than 50 stories deep—in Oman, and conversely to the Andes mountains where he documented the discovery of the mummified remains of the famous Peruvian Ice Maiden. Don’t miss the story of one photographer’s life of adventure and beauty, underground and on high. Additional Information: On Assignment with Stephen L. Yep. Taught him everything he knows! NOT! Actually it was the other way round. I served as his sherpa on many trips including Ellisons Cave. Stephen was one of my mentors while learning cave photography back SEVERAL years ago. He does excellent above ground too! Bob Biddix Innermost Imagery www.innermostimagery.com

Hey Bob, If the quality of your cave photography is any indication, your time spent being a sherpa for Alvarez paid off.
