O K .
Was just curious if anyone likes to cave and camp. I was wondering if any of the caver's here on the forum would be interested in coming to Kentucky sometime this summer and spending a couple of days camping and caving.
I, myself have always enjoyed camping and backpacking and thought what a good way to have a mini vacation than to go out, set up camp and have a nice couple of days of cave exploring and then a nice evening of cave chatter around the campfire.
I know this may not be everyones cup of tea, but if there is anyone here on the forum that might be close enough to southeast Kentucky to make a weekend trip, let me know. I am sure we can find a land owner somewhere with a field close to a cave. If nothing else, we could find a local campground in the area for those of you that might not like the total roughing it camp experience.
If anyone would like to set something like this up and make it happen; all i can say is , let's make it happen.
Just another something to possibly get you to thinking

Cavers normally cave and camp. Many cavers even have their truck set up for Truck Camping so they can just park and go each weekend! That's a good offer for some Kentucky caving. I haven't done many Kentucky caves and we 'might' be interested. As long as it wouldn't happen to fall on a caving weekend that is already taken like TAG Fall Cave In, SERA Cave Carnival, NSS Convention, TCS, 'Porterfest, SKTF, etc, etc....

Well, we will have to check the calendar and see what we can set up. I think all I will have to do is find either a campground or place to camp close enough to a cave and go from there. The main reason I was saying summer is (1) the kids won't have school and (2) it should be a dry time for more cave options.
Check the calendars and tell us some dates.

If you venture toward Colorado, I know of some great caving and camping. Lots of times we combine it with dirt bike riding or rafting to make it an adventure of a lifetime. That's one of the beauties of living here. Everyday can be an adventure of a life time if you take the time the time to have it.

Keep in mind this was near the end of SERA 2006, so the truck was something of a fester by then. It is better organized at the present time, but it's 19 degrees outside and I'm not going out there to get another picture. ;D

Good Truck Camping visual Sharon! Actually Tony we have a friend near Horse Cave who wanted us to look at a few caves. So I'm gong to toss this out there, but I'm wondering if something possibly could be arranged for camping/caving in the Horse Cave area? Or did you want to plan this in your area? That's great! Can we quote you Dan!

For a nickle! ;D ;D You want cash or check? ;D ;D Really that's one of the best saying I have heard lately! I may have to add that to my caver quote list.

But we may ponder on Horse Cave too. Is that close to Bowling Green?

Tony, You might be interested in this spring's SERA Cave Carnival to be put on by East Tennessee Grotto. They are not all that far from where you live. The event will be pretty amazing and looks like it has something for everyone. You can check out their flyer here: www.caves.org/region/sera/SERA2007_Flyer.pdf and go to the ETG website here: www.caves.org/grotto/etg/ to find out more about it all. It will be at the end of May - a good time to camp and cave!
