Standiford R. "Tank" Gorin passed away today at about 5:00 PM at a McMinnville TN nursing home after his health suddenly began to decline for the past few weeks. Tank was one of the founding members of Nashville Grotto. He was a member of Spencer Mountain Grotto and up until last year attended meetings with the aide of a close friend enjoying the fellowship of caver friends. Tank lived in a nice log cabin near the entrance of Cumberland Caverns for many years and would always come out to greet cavers going on cave trips in that cave or around the local area. He always got a kick out of hearing about our trips and adventures and usually attended the Christmas Party at the cave every year. He was a fellow of the National Speleological Society and was member number 478.
Please observe a moment of silence for a fine person and a fine caver.
He will be missed.

As kinsman, Tank will be missed so much. He was friend, teacher, cousin. I am not a caver, my legs won't take it any more, but Tank taught me to love the magnificance of the caves. When I saw Cumberlan Caverns for the first time, I was hooked! Our family celebrated the 50th anniversary of the opening of Cumberland Cave with Tank, family and friends on July 4th last year. His great-great uncle, Franklin Gorin, was one-time owner of Mammoth Cave.
I will miss Tank so dearly; in the years I knew him, he was a southern gentleman, an avid historian, intelligent, interesting to listen to ... there will never be another one like him.

Hi Colonel Sandi Gorin,
I'm so sorry for your loss. All of us (family, cavers, etc) lost a fine person when Tank passed away. I also miss Tank very much and think of him often. Spencer Mountain Grotto meetings will never be the same with Tank not present anymore.
Tank was truly one of a kind!
RIP Tank...... Lynn
