Hello all. The name's Jerome and I've just moved back to the NW Ohio region from British Columbia. I worked in BC doing some cave education and guiding and have recently begun work with the Outdoor Program at Bowling Green State University. Unfortunately they don't have much in the way of caving experience so I was hoping to change that and show them the fun that can be found underground. Of course moving out here I have lost all my caving contacts that I had in BC and was hoping to establish some new ones. Really I'd love to find some people willing to help teach some of my guys(and girls) about caving and give them a little experience. Of course playing around in some karst is just the icing on the cake for me. Personally I'd love to go down to the Sloan Valley area as I've heard some great things about it, but I'll wait and see what suggestions I can find first. And as a little promo for the BC cavers, if you haven't ever heard of Dangerous Dick and the Duckbuster's I seriously recommend checking them out. www.cancaver.ca/music/TheBand.htmlThanks all, see you round the sinkholes, Jerome

Hi Jerome Welcome to the Forum! Well I'd have to say you have come to the right place for caving contacts. ;D Sharon and I are both located in TAG, in case you ever want to come down and join us TAG cavers. But it sounds like you may need to hook up with a few Kentucky cavers. Yes I agree Dangerous Dick and the Duckbuster's are primo!

Welcome Jerome. We do have a some Ohio and Kentucky cavers on the forum who may be able to offer you more information, but here are a couple of upcoming caving events that will at least give you the opportunity to socialize with cavers and make new contacts from cavers in the general region of Ohio. The 2007 Crawlathon will be held January 26-28, 2007 at Carter Caves State Resort Park (Kentucky). This annual event typically includes many led trips in the park, several of them specifically with newer cavers (such as your outdoor program participants) in mind. The 36th Annual 2007 Kentucky Speleofest will be held over Memorial Day Weekend (May 25 - 28, 2007) at the Lone Star Preserve in Upton, Kentucky. Here is one more event though a bit further away for you. The 2007 Southeastern Regional Association (SERA) Summer Cave Carnival will be held May 31 - June 3, 2007 at Camp Nakanawa, located near Crossville, Tennessee. Also, here are a few grottos to contact. I don't know anyone from the Central Ohio Grotto, which may be closer to your location, but both Dayton Underground Grotto, and the Greater Cincinnati Grotto have some friendly and helpful cavers if you'd like to check them out. And like Lynn said, you can always come down to TAG and cave. Hope this helps. Clarification. - No offense to Central Ohio Grotto, I'm quite certain that they have friendly and helpful cavers also. I've just had more opportunity to meet and become acquainted with folks from DUG and GCG.

Welcome to the area. My brothers I are trying to get a local Grotto here in the Cumblerland Valley area sometime soon. If you interested taking a few trips with us, we would be more than happy have you and your group tag along with us. I am sure we could learn quite a bit from you. We have several maps of some caves in Rockcastle county and would love to get a hold of a map of the Sloan cave system. Take care See ya around in the underground.

Well as much as I would love to get this group into some wild caves, after some discussion with the director of our program it seems like a more passive Mammoth caves wild cave trip is in order. But I'll definetly be looking for a bit more adventure come spring break time when we look to cave for a week. Thanks all for the info and I'll keep up with the site here as much as possible.

Crazycavers-- It's not #1 on Google, but feel free to go to www.webstershomecave.net and take a look at all the info I have up about caves, cavers and cave geology. (No, Missouri is not in TAG, but a lot of the science/general information beyond the grotto stuff is generally relevant to Mid-States caving, including TAG.) Jerome--we were at the Dangerous Dick concert at convention in Washington. I've got the two CDS (had 'em before we went to WA). You are correct. Those dudes rock for a good cause, too. They remind me of humorous and or ribald sea chanteys done with a rock beat and a caver perspective. I wish I could hear more of the words on the CD--they were hysterical when sung across the quad.
