Maharani cave in Lamongan, East Java, is one such spot. The prehistoric cave is regarded by many as the most spectacular cave in Indonesia and on par with the Altemira and Mammoth caves in Spain and Coranche cave in France.
"The Maharani cave is unique because of its wonderful stalactite, which are still growing about one centimeter every decade," said Budiman, adding that according to a local myth, the guardian of Java's northern coast is a princess called Maharani.
