Just noticed your links. There are some nice DB's there. How about including the following Discussion board? It's' not National. www.cavingincolorado.com/forum/

(these are not National caving discussion type boards) Jonny, Rock obviously wasn't looking to link national type forums but rather lesser known small forums in the first post of this thread.

I didn't even know there was a cavediggers forum. It was created just last week - now to get cavers signed up and active on it!

Well no wonder I didn't know about it. Come to think of it -- I do have a few questions about plugs and feathers so I may need to sign up. We used them in France but so far not in the good old U.S.A.

Hi NZ. I noticed you mentioned national forums etc in your post. This whole thread is for forums that are not on a national level. This way the "little guys" can get more attention which is often well deserved! ;D

NZ said: "US Cavers, Caves.com, Caveboard, and Cave Divers aren't (or weren't) just region-specific forums, right? Therefore they must be national - or international. And in the spirit of promoting the "little guys" I think most of the links I provided in my last post probably still fit the profile. Check 'em out, and if you disagree than I apologize for wasting all that space on this thread." The "national" forums refered to are sponsored by large incorporated groups. U.S. Cavers Forum is definitely not. Caves.com & Cavediggers.com are owned and operated by Mark & Salwa Passerby. Cave Divers forum is sponsored by Dayo Scuba. Caveboard.com has been swallowed up by Scubaboard that has a forum here: www.scubaboard.com/forumdisplay.php?f=45 run by Intermedia Publications Inc (this one appears commercial). In this sense "regional forums" have little to do with it. The "big guys" have corporate sponsorship and resources the "little guys" generally do not. So that makes it reasonable to add our support for the little guys (U.S. Cavers Forum Included) and let the big guys support themselves as they should be quite capable of doing. Does this make more sense?

Does this make more sense? No, not really. To define as "national" any forum with corporate sponsorship and resources is a really odd position to take, by any stretch of the imagination. Especially when you assert that any national forum without said sponsorship/support is automatically one of the "little guys" - and therefore ceases to be a national forum. But hey - it's your discussion board. <shrug> I removed my offending posts to save you the trouble.

But hey - it's your discussion board. <shrug> Not really NZ, it's every cavers discussion board, or at least any caver that wants to contribute to a caving discussion board. It is for every one that participates here, even you. I removed my offending posts to save you the trouble. Nonsense, as far as I know there has been no discussion of removing your posts. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and just because someone has an opinion that differs from yours and tried to discuss it with you is no reason to remove your posts. Sorry NZ, not trying to make light out of this issue, but I can't seem to work up much indignation over how another caver defines the words national forum. However, there are many other great topics of substance and value to cavers on the forum that you could contribute to. You've already had some really good input into the Cave Gear and Speleo Vendors section of the forum. I even changed my mind on the mini-mag LED upgrade kit due to your comments.

Sorry if I sounded indignant, Sharon. Lynn mentioned in an earlier post that she "didn't even know there was a cavediggers forum". I responded by posting a link to it (the cavediggers.com one, that is) and a few other related discussion boards. As you can see, I was then politely told off by Brian because "this whole thread is for forums that are not on a national level." Clearly several of the other forums mentioned in this thread are focused on caving at a national level, so I was confused by his response. However, considering he's a moderator I took his comments to be more than just a "difference of opinion" between two discussion board members. Hence I removed my offending posts from our DB.
It seems the mention of certain other forums can occasionally be a touchy subject for moderators of this one. Please understand it was not my intention to incite any kind of friction - I was just trying to be helpful. End of post-mortum.
Glad to hear you've made an informed decision on those mini-mag LED upgrades, anyway...

Yeap....I'm registered! ;D Lynn mentioned in an earlier post that she "didn't even know there was a cavediggers forum". I responded by posting a link to it (the cavediggers.com one, that is) and a few other related discussion boards. Hey NZ, I already knew about the Yahoo Group lists and am a member of the Cavediggers Yahoo Group. Got a Cavediggers Digest just this morning in my inbox. I just didn't know about the newly formed Colorado Cavediggers Forum that's online now.
