An ode to a now legal batApril 08, 2006 We know Oklahoma lawmakers want to do the right thing and consider all consequences when voting on important legislation. That's why we were assured hard questions were asked this week when a bill declaring the Mexican bat as the official state bat passed through the hallowed halls at NE 23rd and Lincoln Avenue in Oklahoma City. SB 1678, sponsored by Sen. Owen Laughlin, R-Woodward, and Rep. Jeff Hickman, R-Dacoma, made the Mexican free-tailed bat as the official flying mammal of the state. The bats, at times thick in some western Oklahoma caves, are known to have powerful mosquito appetites. One lawmaker wanted to know if the bats were here legally and that they were not eating mosquitoes that would be eaten by local bats. Mr. Hickman, a former OU press secretary, explained to his fellow lawmakers that the bat migrates to Oklahoma each year to breed, then flies back to its home in Mexico. It often stops over in Texas to leave a few bat droppings on its way home. www.normantranscript.com/opinion/local_story_098135425?keyword=topstory

;D I noted that rather odd comment Dan, but couldn't decide if it was on the up and up or not. I did find it funny in light of recent "political" issues.

Lets hope it is a misquoted joke. The way it's reported by the writer, it makes someone sound really, really, stupid.
