Is anyone familiar with the subject ascender system? It incorporates a pulley and cable to reduce the load (i.e. body weight by ~1/2). A kit was rumored advertised at Bob & Bob's or Speleoshoppe in the 1995 time frame. Some of us in the Buffalo River Grotto made our own systems around that time frame and it worked very well. I did Cemetery Pit with my system at the 1997 TAG Fall Cave-In. I'm asking about it because my son dis-assembled it sometime in the past to scavenge some Petzel ascenders and now I can't figure out exactly how it was rigged. A little assist would be appreciated.

Welcome to the discussion board Evilfrog80. The foot loop cord runs through a little pulley in the upper hand ascender. The other end of the foot loop cord hooks into the top of the croll, or chest ascender. This give the foot loop a mechanical advantage. Here is a link with a picture. storrick.cnchost.com/VerticalDevicesPage/Ascender/HECPages/HEC47.html

Thanks for the information, but not the system the BRG came up with. I do know that the pulley was fixed to the bottom of the upper Petzl and the cable connected on one end to the top of the lower petzl, I think, which connected to the seat harness from that petzl bottom. The other end of the cable went to the foot loop, I think. I remember that, with one pulley, you reduced your load by 1/2, but took twice as many full steps to ascend.
Forgive the description, but I'm looking at pieces of the system and trying to remember what was done ~13 years ago.

I'm going to E-mail you an attachment of the Petzl instruction manual. Hope this will help some.

Thanks for the Tech Document; I'll study up on it and probably figure out how I rigged it in the first place.
