I think this topic has come up before. Caving for pay by itself is not a problem. It is why you are getting paid and what you may be doing that is. Some scientists get paid for example to do research in cave environments. That is OK with most everyone. But some tour guide taking buffoons to a fragile cave that results in the cave getting damaged or compromised is simply not responsible or appropriate. There are enough attractive adventure sports above ground to satisfy anyone. Leave caves to responsible cavers and make money some other way.
Bull if you really want an honest opinion post this on Tag-Net.

I may be mistaken, but haven't you asked about caving for profit in the past? So who is this elusive friend?

Legitimate cave for pay are private show caves,state/federal caves where a fee is charged and employees run the tours and high adventure-school cave classes, where education is a large and primary part of the experience. Wild caving cave for pay as a vendor, with permission of the landowner, and adequate training, and liability insurance for the staff is probably tolerable, as long as the caving is done in reasonable groups and frequency to minimize damage to the cave. Cave for pay run by wildcat operators without training, insurance for leaders or participants, and on other's' land (public or private) without permission is not ok and probably illegal. Also, I would include caving for excessive fees over actual cost of providing the access as a get rich quick scheme, and actually ripping off the clients.

azureana, very clear and to the point, thank you and i agree, lynn, yes i have inquired about this in the past. and i think due to the sinsitive nature of such a question i will let that person expose themselves to you in person, they are not ashaimed, but as we have discussed in the past, alot of hard core cavers do look down on this no matter what the rules and ect. and on that i wait for more opinions to pass on, thank you all so far this is exactly the kind of feaadback i need to sway them from this, as they are already considering swaying as it is, this will help

Yes I thought I remembered you had asked about cave-for-pay on many occasions over the years. Glad I wasn't mistaken. But with all the times you have phoned lately I couldn't help but notice that you seem to have a heck of a lot of friends who don't ever speak for themselves. Ummmm their choice, I guess.
