Is talking about what goes on at the NSS DB an unwelcome topic here? I am not thrilled with the way things are going there, but I don't want to make noise about it here, if it would cause problems. Also, just what would I have to do to get my user rank to "Warning Level - 3%"?

We are not here to bash or compete with the NSS DB, but give people another place to talk about caves and caving. I must say, Lynn and Sharon do a most excellent job of posting the latest caving news and views. Start picking on Lynn or Sharon and we can make your warning meter read 3%.....ROFLMAO!! Kind of like tipping your waitress a nickel for bad service.....it gets the point across.

Thanx, Mr. Dan. I won't muddy the waters. (Even though I am really curious about what happened to the last board over there - I stopped reading it, then it was gone.)

Subere you must have created some 'bad juju' when you stopped reading that DB? US Cavers Forum is for cavers to talk with cavers and to find out the latest caving news and events. Also interesting to note this forum is not a corporate type discussion board and we don't want it to be.

More like I stopped reading it because of the bad vibes. I did find some thread fragments in Google cache, so I understand what you mean by "corporate".

Subere, The cool thing about this board is that you can say what is on your mind and discuss things that may not be freely allowed in other sponsored forums. We just ask that everyone be respectful of each other and abide the basic rules (terms of service TOS). Most members of this forum are NSS members and proud of it. As a group we have nothing against this fine caving institution and count many of it's members as our best friends. But I digress...
I too was not happy with another caving forum and chose not to reapply to it. Of course it seemed to regularly disappear along with all content for some strange reason? In any case there are enough cavers here to make it interesting and to perhaps forge new friendships etc. Make yourself at home! I hope you continue to post and enjoy U.S. Cavers forum.

I participate in lots of discussion boards on the net, and I really like this one! I also liked participating on the NSS Discussion board, but they do have their problems. I guess they are just so big, and its really hard to please everyone. For example, I saw where they initially put up a "politics" section because there seemed to be so much political discussion in the "other" section. Now they took it away. They say its because many of the members didn't like the heated nature of the discussions on it, but it looks to me like they are really targeting a handful of people that simply don't see eye to eye with the admins political points of view. Also, I can't believe they have not removed some of those insulting posts that some of those people keep writing - name calling and such! Its gotten WAY out of hand over there! I think generally the new admin team is doing a fine job except that a few of the admins seem to think that arguing relentlessly with a few folks is going to make them go away. In fact, this seems to have had the opposite effect, where others have gone away, and the argumentative few are still there "louder" than ever. In general I like to participate on DBs managed in one of two ways: 1. Small group - The board is a small group, everyone participates and says what they want as long as they are respectful. Little if anything is ever deleted unless the author delets it. 2. Large Group - The board is large, and lots of disrespectful and insulting posts are posted, but the admins do not get involved with the discussion personally, and are strictly there to use their best judgement to remove the out-of-line posts. Usually, this involves deletion of whole sections of discussion, so one person doesn't feel like they are being picked on. I really don't like it when the admins of a DB seem to have some personal issue with one person and try to "run them off". Thanks to the admins at the U.S. Caver's Forum for being the open and fair persons they are!!

When I post on one of these DB's I like my words to stay where I put them and not have them displayed on other web sites around the world........word for word. To me it's like the difference in writing a comment to the local news paper compared to my comments showing up on the national news. I must say though, it's fun to watch all the comments, crazy forum topics, and general banter from Russia, while sitting in front of my computer in Colorado............ I wonder if the signal travels East or West from here.........possibly circling the earth......or does it go in one direction and then back again. Check it out. you to can watch the action from Russia. tinyurl.com/gab98

Your signal just bounces aruond at random until it hits where it is going and then it gets checked to make sure it got sent right. It's a freakin amazing thing man! I think there is some software to show you like a map of where your messages go as they cruise the web. You can google that for yourself dude. Thanks for the URL too! Good Karma man.
