Anyone else getting this notice when trying to read the new NSS Discussion Board?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I can generally read one (1) article, and then get this repeatedly when trying to click onto a second article.
Wayne - are you reading this? Any thoughts?

Yes I have also gotten that message but not as often as you describe marlatt. My main problem on the NSS Discussion Board seem to be that I log in then later am logged out, log in then later am logged out, and each time have to re-log in. Un-hun, uh-hun - lots of bugs.

Yes, Lynn! That's been happening to me too. Usually its right as I am trying to write a message. I'll log in, write the message, then try to post it, but it pops up with a screen asking me to log in again, and when I do, my message is gone, then I re-write the message and again try to post it, then it pop's up with another screen to log-in? ? Crazy! I haven't logged in since the last time it happened. Maybe someone doesn't want me to post.

Oh poo, I can't imagine anyone who would not want you to post! I'm sure they love you Kelly! U.S. Cavers Forum loves you! No doubt the NSS board has bugs! ;D No not coodies, not cave crabs, just bugs. (Well...er...lol perhaps in their opinion they have a few pesks. ) Maybe they should call The Orkin Man 1-888-Orkinman or even visit www.orkin.com/ It will probably just take them time to work out all the bugs on the new NSS Discussion Board.

Hi Stu, I've seen that message on the Colorado forum before. I'm not sure if your on dial up or not, but I close out the site, try another link off my desk top, then go back to it and it works. I haven't had it do it twice in a row yet.
I do clear out my cookies once in a while, when I had trouble posting to the old forum. It's very frustrating when you post and loose it all due to a problem like you ladies are experiencing. I always highlight my stuff and copy it, before I try to view or post it. Then you have a back up copy on your clip board.
When ever I post, I open the reply in a new window by right clicking on the reply button and selecting "open in new window," For some reason, it seems to be more stable and I don't get near as many error messages ony more.
I would start by trying to clear your cookies. Remember Wayne does not know much about the hardware or script end of things. You might bring this problem up with the new IT chair, Josh.
One of the problems with using phpbb software that a friend told me about is that it is so popular, that the hackers tend to like to pick on it. The UK cavers discussion board just went through such an attack.

Dan -
Thanks. I've bene getting the "Service Unavailable" consistently when trying to read the NSS or Colorado forums from work (basically, off a T1 line). I don't seem to have trouble at other sites, including other BB sites.
I will take a look at my cookies. I generally keep them cleaned up, but its probably time for a deep cleansing.

So, I'm not very computer savy. Could someone please explain how to clean out my cookies??
I always used to just eat them to get rid of them... ;D

This might help you....I hope.
From your IE browser's Tools menu, select Internet Options. Click on the General tab.
To clear your browser cookies... Click the Delete Cookies button. Click Ok. Click OK to close the Internet Options window. Close the browser window and restart Internet Explorer.

Stuart FWIW, I cleared all my cookies this morning, and still am getting the "Service Unavailable" response from the NSS BB. Maybe its due to firewall settings here at work, since reading the board late last night, from home, seemed ok. But why is it only the NSS and Colorado boards giving me this problem??? swm

Or in Netscape: Edit...Preferences..Privacy and Security...Cookies....Delete Cookies.
Probably works similar in any Mozilla derived browser.

U.S. Cavers Forum is user (caver) friendly? ;D Seriously, if I had to take a wild guess I would think it is because this board is powered by proboards and both their boards are powered by phpBB.

Hey Stuart,
That same thing of looking at one topic and then trying to go back has happened to me a couple of times also. I've been really busy lately and haven't had time to check CaveChat.org very often so couldn't say this is a habitual problem at this point or merely a glitch.
I did try to post to the chatbox once and when I submitted my message, it appeared to accept it, but then it never showed up in the box. I retried it a couple more times and could never get it to post, but it did not give me an error message. I haven't tried it again and it is not really a big deal to me in any case.
Basically I've had so little spare time in the last couple of weeks that in the overall scheme of life, not being able to post a message anywhere isn't even ranking a blip on my radar screen. ;D ;D
