Delve into history at Devilstep HollowCave contains snapshot of American Indian life Rich history is in Devilstep Hollow, the head of the Sequatchie Valley. The headwaters of the Sequatchie River burst clear and cold from a spring and race between rock-lined walls. The first sheriff of Cumberland County, born in 1801, rests in a grave beneath a canopy of trees. Nearby are remnants of Gravelly Spur, a pioneer road into the valley built in the 1790s. But truly ancient history is underground in Devilstep Hollow Cave. The cavern opens at the bottom of a craggy sinkhole where a thin curtain of mist hangs above two green pools of rainwater. Treasures from the past are beyond two tight, muddy crawlways, behind a sturdy new, locked steel gate. Full Article
