Just a word of wisdom from this unwise one. My compurter picked up a virus called Anti virus 2009. It won't let you on the internet without them wanting you to pay $50 to buy there antivirus program. I found some manual instructions on the internet to remove it, but it warned up front that you could really screw things up if you didn't know exactly what your doing and feel comfortable doing it. Not being that computer literate.....I took it to my local fix-it shop. Of coarse there are a bunch of anti virus programs out there that claim they can fix it ...........if you buy their program off the internet. Most cost around $50....go figure. One of those ads asked for my E-mail address and password. From what my computer repair man told me ......it is a scam to get your credit card number. Whatever you do.......don't buy into it. If you get this virus, IMO, the best bet is to take your computer in and have a pro get rid of it for you........unless you are a pro. ;D Just thought I'd let everyone know this is a bad one if you catch it. Not sure how I caught it yet.........and I'm hoping to get my computer back next week. He mentioned having to pull the hard drives in order to get rid of this one.

Bummer Dan! That's another reason I use a Mac these days. You also have the option of installing Linux instead of MicroSoft Windows. There are lots of free distributions out there such as Googles GOS and Ubuntu that have all the functionality of windows without all the virii that plague Microsoft operating systems. Many of them are bootable from a CD or DVD which allows you to continue to surf the web while going in to your Windows disk and making repairs (such as removing virus files etc). For me about the only use I have for Windows at home is to play a game or two and run a couple of cave map software packages.
