The Longhorn Cavern State Park represents only five percent of cave formations found on earth, those carved by underground rivers. Similar to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, you’ll not find stalactites and stalagmites, but an intricate system of limestone carved away much as the Colorado river shaped the Grand Canyon. la-mitchell.blogspot.com/2008/07/subterranean-inspiration.html

Longhorn Cavern is actually fairly featureless. The architecturally interesting entrance is pretty cool, but the cave itself is as stark as the Texas landscape above. We went in late December, so temperature below/above was not a factor to recommend it. Some of the walls have interesting shapes, and the guide spiel is filled with Longhorn cowpies.
Still, if you are in the area, and have a hankering, go. It was worth the price just to see a non-Missouri cave, but of the Texas show caves I've been in (Sonora, Natural Bridge Caverns, Cave Without a Name, Inner Space, Longhorn and Cascade Caverns gee, I've got one Texas Show Cave to go (Wonder Cave) to collect the whole set!) they are ranked above in approximate go and see order. Longhorn is a good solid C+, and you don't want to know the grade of Cascade Caverns. (Even the cascade is artificial.)
