Construction company fills in Gellért-hegy crystal cave

The crystal cave excavated at the foot of Gellért-hegy in January has been covered with eight to ten metres of construction waste by the builder of a luxury villa. There is no way of telling whether the rare and extremely beautiful cave can be saved.
When the crystal cave was first explored, authorities halted construction of the villa and gave permission to continue it only if the builder promised to provide 24/7 access to the cave for researchers. Instead of doing so, they covered the area and closed off the cave. Speleologist Péter Adamkó told inforadio.hu, the crystal cave is a natural wonder which would be considered a world sensation and preserved anywhere else, but now it may be ruined by the rubble.
