You all are cordially invited to join the West Virginia Cave Conservancy at its seventh annual fund-raising banquet. When, you say? Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the Fort Savannah Inn in Lewisburg, West Virginia. Social hour begins downstairs in the cash bar at 6:00 p.m., with dinner being served at 7:00 p.m. The menu hasn’t been hammered down yet, but we’re leaning towards a vegetarian lasagna, prime rib, and lemon chicken for the main meal, supported by a seasonal vegetable medley, meatless twice-baked potatoes, and bread. There will be ice water, coffee, and ice tea available, as well as the cash bar.
After dinner, Dr. Stephanie Schwabe, founder and director of the Rob Palmer Blue Holes Foundation, will present “Pigeons and Blue Holes.” Dr. Schwabe is a microbiologist and loves to dive blue holes in the Caribbean. She has a Ph.D. in Biogeochemical Investigations of Caves within Bahamian Carbonate Platforms (blue holes). Does that sound cool, or what? Her foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the scientific and physical exploration of blue holes in the Bahamas. You can learn more from www.blueholes.org.
We changed the venue this year to the Fort Savannah Inn. The dining area will be much more intimate. There is only enough seating for 80 people, so please don't be disappointed, make your reservations early. Another reason to make your reservations early is that after November 1st, the price of registration goes up to $30 per person. Mail your reservation to WVCC, PO Box 243, Frankford WV 24938.
Other activities include an auction that will have a couple of out-of-print original WVASS Bulletins, awards and recognitions, games, and other surprises. After dinner, WVCC has made arrangements for the best band in these parts, Sweety, to play downstairs. Sweety plays sophisticated blues, saucy rock ’n roll with a dash of smooth rhythm ’n blues featuring lead singer Christine Campbell. At 10 p.m., the doors downstairs will be opened to the public to hear the band for free as a community goodwill gesture. So come on and join us for our seventh annual dinner. Remember seating is limited, so send in your reservations soon. Already, more reservations have come in early for this event than any other year. You can register online or download a registration form from www.wvcc.net.
Our social hour beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a Full Cash Bar will give you a chance to catch up on events since our last meeting. We have had many changes in our organization this year; come meet our new directors and find out about all of the work that has taken place over the last year.
Directions to the Fort Savannah Inn. From virtually everywhere except Tech country, take I-64 to Lewisburg, Exit 169. At the bottom of the exit ramp, go south on Route 219 approximately 1.3 miles to the Fort Savannah Inn on the left at the bottom of the hill. For those of you joining us from Tech country, take Route 219 north to Lewisburg. Go through town and when you pass Washington Street (Route 60), go two short blocks down the hill and the Fort will be on your right.
