Cave Danger Rockingham County Kelly Creswell Anyone can go into a cave, as long as it's not trespassing on someone else's property. But things can get dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. And even when you are trained, something still might go wrong. "You have to have some level of experience and you have to know your limitations," says Jeff Good. Jeff Good is the Eastern Region Coordinator for the National Cave Rescue Commission. He trains people who want to go caving. Good says wild caving is different from the tourist caverns. "Cold, wet and in a dark place for an extended period of time and the temperature in the caves around here is 52 degrees," says Good. One of the rescues was for a camper at Camp Horizons in Rockingham County. Director John Hall says groups from there have been visiting the caves for 25 years and he knows safety must come first. "Any step whether your rock climbing or whether your caving, you don't make a move until you know what the next move is and where you're going to be putting your hands and your feet," says Hall. Good agrees that no matter how experienced you are... "Everyone can run into a situation where they may get in trouble so, you know, the possibility is out there," says Good. Cave rescues are rare, but do happen. The most important thing is to stay close to your leader and never wander too far off. Article and Video: www.whsv.com/news/headlines/3515021.html

EOC would not let us help on this one They had there paid "Confined Space Rescue Team" there. Good thing nothing went wrong. Confined space is not the same as Cave space.
