The Madison Cave isopod is an endangered freshwater crustacean that lives in the Shenandoah Valley's caves, a unique and rare species that biologists are eager to study. "You can be standing on the ground surface, and be right over top of them and have no idea," said cave biologist Ben Hutchins. "They live in groundwater, so they are potentially all over the place."
